For this beautiful Kiawah beachfront property we focused on the site’s potential and utilizing the natural site features. The design incorporated the existing native vegetation as well as conveying stormwater via open swales to raingardens. We maximized the recreational potential for the whole family as well. The children can play on the custom play fort and then head down to the beach via a curving boardwalk as the adults relax with a view on the ipe wood cocktail deck. On the way back from sun and surf, they can cool off as they walk under the misting vine tunnel. Finally, its time to gather around the stone firepit for s’mores and firelight in the evening.
The disturbed dunes were planted in native grasses while the landscape plants were chosen carefully for their foliage and color, salt spray tolerance, and drought resistance.
